Women paroling after serving a life sentence are typically between 35 and 50 years old, sometimes older and have need of learning the fundament concepts of establishing stability, preparing for their future, relearning to live in a world where the systems have changed from the time they went in. The services provided at LLOPA are designed to meet them where they are.
LLOPA uses coaches who are former lifers because we were there for each other during the most difficult times in our lives, have learned the steps needed to reclaim our lives, often through trial and error and we understand the fears of coming back to a world we know nothing about. While LLOPA has certified counselors, those of us who have paroled, benefitted most from a coach to guiding us rather that a counselor to counseling us.
